A level trail along a disused railway near Sandbach.

Wheelock Rail Trail Waypoint 1
The Wheelock Rail Trail near Sandbach follows the route of a disused railway from Ettiley Heath to Malkins Bank. Today the trail is a rich haven for wildlife and wild flowers and provides a pleasant level and wide route through the Cheshire East countryside. After the railway closed in 1966 the track lay derelict for many years, gradually becoming more and more overgrown. After February 2000 the then County Council worked closely with the local community through the Wheelock Rail Trail Association to develop the track into a multi-user trail. It was officially opened in September 2002. The trail can be accessed from several points. The easiest for riders is at Elworth where you can park on Lodge Road - please park considerately. Postcode for satnav: CW11 3HD. Horse riders cannot cross the A534 Wheelock Bypass so riders will need to turn around and retrace their steps back to Elworth at this point.
