Ruby Rides Route 6 - Moorland Trail (16km) Print

Ruby Country is a rural area in north west Devon, enclosed by the North Devon AONB, Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor and the north Cornwall coast, covering the 45 parishes surrounding Holsworthy and Hatherleigh.

RBW-601 Waypoint
From the Meldon Reservoir car park follow the access road to the junction and turn right RBW-602 Waypoint
Go under the railway bridge (which now carries the Granite Way), follow the road through Meldon and straight on RBW-603 Waypoint
Use the road bridge to go over the A30 and on to the B3260 RBW-604 Waypoint
Take the road on the left signed Bowerland (not the A30 slip road but the next one on the left), follow this road to the junction with the AA386 RBW-605 Waypoint
Cross the A386 following signs to Bowerland. Follow the road / lane to a left hand bend RBW-606 Waypoint
Take the public bridleway on the right hand side, which goes on to join a dismantled railway track. Follow this bridleway along the edge of the West Bowerland Plantation RBW-607 Waypoint
Take the public bridleway on the left, immediately after passing beneath a brick arch railway bridge. Follow this bridleway to its junction with a road, by following the waymarker through the plantation RBW-608 Waypoint
Turn left along the road, passing Thorndon Farm. Go straight on at the staggered cross-roads, signed Week RBW-609 Waypoint
Use the subway to pass beneath the A30 and take the lane on the left after Week Farm, signed Unsuitable for motors. Follow this lane to its junction with a road RBW-610 Waypoint
Cross straight over the road and continue straight ahead, signed Forda, to the Highway Inn and the A386 RBW-611 Waypoint
Cross the A386 and follow the public bridleway over the Granite Way and onto the moor. RBW-612 Waypoint
Turn left at the junction with another bridleway and continue straight for 1 1/4 miles RBW-613 Waypoint
At the fork in two public bridleways take the right hand bridleway and return to the Meldon Reservoir car park
