Signal-controlled crossings (sometimes known as Pegasus crossings) are often vital for equestrians to cross busy roads but have a high cost so it is often necessary to compare with other sites and costs. The Pegasus specification from the Dept for Transport is generally way over-engineered for needs so the BHS commonly presses for modified pedestrian crossings, simply with an additional button box set back at rider height, which can generally be produced at only a few thousand pounds more, rather than a full Pegasus crossing which is two adjacent crossings, one for pedestrians and cyclists, one for equestrians generally at more than double the cost of a pedestrian crossing.

Please report near misses or incidents on www.horseincidents.org.uk or BHS app 'Horse i', not DobbinData. Obstructions or other problems should be reported to your county council. For more about other Equestrian Mapping Projects see www.bhsaccess.org.uk
