Tottenhoe and Eaton Bray Waypoint 1
Totternhoe and Eaton Bray, Ride 11 in the Bedfordshire on Horseback series. Approximately 11km (7 miles) with option to shorten to about 5.5km (3« miles). This ride explores the Totternhoe Knolls, part of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Much of the route is on wide grassy byways (which are most vehicle free) and there are some great views. The ride is described anticlockwise but can be ridden in either direction, although if you ride the shorter option this direction is to be preferred. There is about 3km (2 miles) of roadwork on roads that are generally quiet outside peak hours. The start of the ride is the National Trust Totternhoe Knolls car park, well signed from Totternhoe. This car park has height restriction barriers - please call 01234 276071 for information as to how to gain access to the car park. From car park (GR 986217) take the Byway to the left of car park to junction. Turn right here along grassy but slightly rutted Byway, uphill and then downhill to junction (the escarpment to your left is sheer, it is fenced but you may prefer to keep the right of the track). Turn left, then through barrier (watch for rabbit holes). Turn immediately right on to wide green lane for about a 800m to another junction.

Tottenhoe and Eaton Bray Waypoint 2
Turn left here onto Bridleway BW (signed) and follow this grassy track about 800m until it bears left (signed) in front of trees (above disused railway line). The track becomes stony and goes downhill then levels out.

Tottenhoe and Eaton Bray Waypoint 3
Keep straight on this BW (which becomes a Byway), ignoring side turnings under disused railway line. In grassy field, continue straight on towards waymark post in distance, then take track to right of post. Eventually come to a T junction in front of factory.

Tottenhoe and Eaton Bray Waypoint 4
Turn right here (signed) and then, in about 175m, left (Byway signed). This Byway becomes a residential road and emerges onto busier road at Lower End. Turn left. Option: (Avoids further roadwork). After about 175m take Byway (signed) to your left and follow this Byway about 800m back to the start. This route is well waymarked but you are advised to stay to the used track as there may be rabbit holes and tree stumps in the verges to the side.

Tottenhoe and Eaton Bray Waypoint 5
Pass the Byway signed to your left and turn right down Eaton Bray Road. Continue along Eaton Bray Road, past one road to your right, signed Stanbridge. Take BW (signed) on left opposite next road to right.

Follow this farm track straight on for about 2km to road and turn left.

Tottenhoe and Eaton Bray Waypoint 7
